SPORT AID - 1988
No less
than two years later Sport Aid was back. Sport Aid '88 took place on
Sunday September 11, 1988.
The global program of sport, music, and carnival; to raise money and attention
for children in the UK and worldwide was back stronger than ever. With a special
1,000 meter warm-up race for kids under 14, this event climaxes with a 10k
fun run called "The Race Against Time", which starts at 15:00 GMT all over the
world.
Sport Aid T-shirts emblazoned with the words "Change The World" and games were
available in shops on every High street and all Midlands Banks, schools and
major stores. Each participant to the race received their own special Global
Race Number produced by laser printer from a massive computer database at the
Sports Aid '88 Global Headquarters in London. Runners in the UK were able to
have their name printed on the race tag.
In association with the Sports Aid event, various carnivals, shows and events
were held in London and all over the world.
Status Quo, one of the performers at the original Live Aid concerts re-recorded their song "Rocking All Over the World" with new lyrics.
"Running All Over the World" as it was titled was released on 45, 12" single and CD as a
CD single.
