GERMAN AID
(Band für Africa)

In early January 1985 over 40 German recording artists gathered in Munich to donate their time and talent to a song written by
Herbert Grönemeyer to raise money for the relief of famine in Ethiopia.

The idea for producing the "Nackt Im Wind" album and song came after the success of a group of British artists known as Band Aid.

The end result was the historic recording of "Nackt Im Wind", performed by artists including Alphaville, Bap, Ina Deter Band, Extrabreit, Geier Sturzflug, Herbert Grönemeyer, Gitte Haenning, Hans Hartz, Heinz Rudolf Kunze, George Kranz, Klaus Lage, Udo Lindenberg, Wolf Maahn, Peter Maffay, Ulla Meinecke, Marius Müller Westernhagen, Münchner Freiheit, Nena, Rheingold, Rodgau Monotones, Spider Murphy Gang, Spliff, Trio und Juliane Werding and many more.

The Band für Africa project was released as a 45, 12". A music video featuring all the artists singing was later released.
In February 1985 the song reached number 3 in the German Billboard Charts.
