This is a story about a song
and its fate. About the song which we loved to listen to and sing. About an idea
which contains a lot of symbolism. Fifteen years ago, a group of young people
undertook a task of helping hungry people in Africa with the power of music.
During the transition from 1984 to 1985, an effort was launched under the name
of “Band Aid”, led by Bob Geldof. It was embraced by all the humane persons,
singers, and musicians throughout the world. In our country, Dragan Ilić, author
composer, and Mladen Popović, text writer, and then the editor of the famous TV
program “Hit of the Month”, created a song “In a Million Years”. With a team of
associates, for the first time they assembled and united with music the rock
powers of the then Yugoslavia.
A song was born which with its beauty and power left an indelible mark in our
minds as a testimony of the time that had passed. As fate would have it, these
people, then united with the song and the idea, actualized in a rarely seen
large concert, are now living their music lives in separate environments,
divided by borders.
In front of you is the song “In a Million Years”, issued for the first time as a
CD and an audio cassette, performed by a group of the best-known singers and
instrumentalists under the name “Yu Rock Mission”, as well as a selection of
their most popular hits. Today, some of the participants are no longer among us,
but this album is a special thank-you to all those to whom the association and
the cooperation in this work meant more than music and more than love.
